Altruist becomes minister

What would cause Michael Gove to describe you as having “vast knowledge of the education sector”? A lifetime as a Headteacher or governor, perhaps? Maybe you are a professor of education or have been a long-standing director of education in a local authority? No, you just have to have founded an education charity that runs academies. And what job in government would this “vast knowledge” qualify you to do? That’s right: education minister! Apparently, John Nash (shortly to be ‘Lord Nash”) — a venture capitalist and Conservative Party donor — will not take a salary as minister: very altruistic of him!
