Alan Lewis is a vice-chairman of the Conservative Party. He is ‘executive patron’ of the troubled Kings Academy in Bradford, which was built on land he owns in a deal worth £6 million in rent over 20 years. Incredibly – and inexplicably – the DfE thought, wrongly, it seems, that he was Chair of Governors. Apparently, there was no chair of governors. The free school, opened in 2011, is under investigation for alleged financial mismanagement, as widely reported in the media.
